Villa Rucellai

Antica proprietà dei Rucellai la villa è posta nel centro urbano di Campi Bisenzio ed è protetta da alte mura che la rendono poco visibile all'esterno. Originaria del XV secolo, costruita su un antico edificio duecentesco del quale sono visibili la torre ed un'arco d'ingresso, nel 1512 venne saccheggiata dagli spagnoli. Ricostruita all fine settecento, attualmente l'edificio si presenta come una riuscita convivenza della porzione quattrocentesca con la costruzione barocca, più sfarzosa e ricca di stucchi, affreschi e pareti decorate. Pregevoli elementi di decoro sono, uno stemma dei Rucellai posto sopra l'ingresso ed un elegante cortile ornato da un loggiato. La villa è circondata da un bellissimo giardino ricco di piante secolari dove si può ammirare un grande platano centenario.

Villa Rucellai is an ancient property owned by the family of the same name that stands in the centre of the town of Campi Bisenzio, surrounded by walls that conceal it almost completely from the outside world. Built in the 1600s over an ancient building dating back to the 13th century, it was pillaged in 1512 by the Spanish and not rebuilt until the late 18th century. The building as it appears today is a blend of the 15th century parts and those constructed in the Baroque period, when the villa acquired opulent stuccowork, frescoes and decorated walls. Decorative elements include the Rucellai crest over the entrance and the elegant courtyard with a fine loggia. The villa is surrounded by a beautiful garden full of old trees, including an impressive century-old plane tree.
