This villa was erected in 1667 by cardinal Giulio Rospigliosi immediately after his ascension to the papal throne (as Pope Clement IX). The design of the building is attributed to the Bernini school. The edifice comprises a square central block and two side wings, and is on three floors. The entrance to the villa, preceded by a long avenue lined with two rows of holm-oaks, consists of two stone doorways surmounted by a marble papal crest. The exterior is clad in bands of serena stone, which highlight the floors, the corners and the window openings. The large garden has an extensive lawn at the front with a pool at its centre. The villa is now used as a congress centre.
