In 1898 the composer Giacomo Puccini bought a house on the shores of Lake Massaciuccoli. The villa was completely demolished and later rebuilt to a design by Puccini, De Servi, Nomellini and Galileo Chini. The simplicity of the exterior of the rectangular building contrasts with the wealth of eclectic decoration interior, of a different style in each room that reflects its purpose. The small garden against which the waters of the lake once lapped takes its inspiration - in the flower-beds and rock garden - from the Japanese style of garden design. The building is connected to the garden by a metal-framed bay window. The villa is now the home of the Museo Villa Puccini, dedicated to the life and work of the celebrated composer
