The maps of the Florentine land registry record the purchase by the Corsini family in 1427 of half of the Palazzo delle Corti and the surrounding land in the popolo (or village) of San Piero di Sotto. In this period the villa consisted of a simple fortified tower facing north-west, and was part of a line of fortifications built across the Pesa valley, to defend the city of Florence. In the early 17th century it was restored by painter and architect Santi di Tito, an operation which transformed it into an imposing rectangular edifice dominated by twin towers, which are still visible today. The Italian-style garden and the grand park with an avenue lined with age-old cypress trees, is the venue in the third week in September of "Giardini in Fiera", a fashionable and highly popular local flower show.
