Villa Il Torrino

Nell'angolo a sud-ovest delle mura di Scarperia, sorge la villa "Il Torrino", ricostruita su un'antica torre delle mura urbane e restaurata con interventi "in stile" negli anni 1930-40. Il suggestivo parco, ricavato sulla scarpata delle mura, è abbellito da alberi secolari e percorso vialetti ornati con antichi orci, conche e numerose sculture, opera dello scultore Vittorio Collacchioni, attuale proprietario. Alcune ceramiche della scuola del Chini contribuiscono a rendere ancora più suggestivo tutto l'insieme. Su un lato del palazzo si estende un "giardino all'italiana" con una bella vasca con ninfee, circondata da un sedile circolare in pietra. L'interno della torre è arredato con mobili antichi e oggetti di pregio di varie epoche che vanno dal periodo etrusco a quello romano, medioevale, settecentesco, fino al Liberty. Dal piano di ingresso, con salotto e studio, si scende nella cucina e nelle cantine, mentre salendo si trovano alcune camere da letto con caminetto, due bagni in stile ottocentesco, un bagno con vasca romana, caminetto e un mosaico della scuola del Chini, una sala dove sono esposte armature e armi di vari tipi ed epoche, e infine, in alto, al livello della merlatura, una stanza grande quanto tutta la sezione della torre, con una stupenda vista sul paese di Scarperia e sulle vallate del Mugello. Un recente restauro ha cercato di evidenziare i caratteri peculiari del complesso mettendo in evidenza le parti trecentesche.

In the south-west corner of the walls of Scarperia, stands the villa known as Il Torrino (or "little tower"), rebuilt over an ancient tower in the town walls and restored between 1930 and 1940. The beautifully atmospheric park, created on the escarpment of the walls, has centuries-old trees and is crossed by pathways adorned with ancient jars and bowls and the numerous sculptures by Vittorio Collacchioni, who now owns the property. Various ceramic works from the Chini school add to the overall charm. The Italian-style garden that stretches out on one side of the building has a fine lily pool, surrounded by a circular stone seat. The tower contains ancient furnishings and valuable items from Etruscan, Roman and medieval time, as well as eighteenth-century and art nouveau items. From the entrance floor with drawing room and study, stairs lead down into the kitchen and cellars, and up to a number of bedchambers with fireplaces, two 19th-century-style bathrooms, a bathroom with Roman bathtub, fireplace and a mosaic from the Chini school, a room displaying various kinds of armour and weaponry from different historical periods and finally, up behind the crenellations, a large room the size of the whole floor plan of the tower with a splendid view over the town of Scarperia and the Mugello valleys. Recent restoration work sought to reveal the special features of the castle, highlighting the 14th-century parts.
