The Centre for Natural Sciences, on the slopes of Monteferrato, is a foundation run by the town of Prato. This foundation consists of a museum - 750 square metres of rooms exhibiting birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, insects, shells, minerals, rocks, herbaria, and with archeological and paleo-ethnological sections - and a park where animals run wild. The park, comprising a wood of cluster pine trees, is crossed by a network of paths that allow visitors to observe the animals that roam freely and those in captivity. One of the centre's main activities is the treatment and adaptation of wild animals so that they can be returned to their natural habitat. The park also contains two small lakes in which aquatic animals and birds live and reproduce. Species to be found here include falcons, herons, fallow deer, roe deer and wild boar.
