Villa Fehr

La Villa Feher si trova sulla sommità del colle di Vicopisano e dai primi dell'Ottocento è di proprietà della famiglia Fehr-Walser, di origini svizzere. Oltre alla Villa è presente un grande parco (non visitabile) che nella sua estensione abbraccia quasi tutto il versante nord del colle ed è delimitato a meridione dalla possente fortificazione Brunelleschiana. Un tempo l'area su cui ora sorge la Villa, oltre alla Rocca del Brunelleschi ancora esistente, ospitava anche il Monastero di San Francesco che, dopo un esistenza travagliata, fu sconsacrato e venduto a privati alla fine del'700, al tempo delle soppressioni delle Compagnie Religiose effettuate da Pietro Leopoldo. Dalla fine del '700 l'area della Villa e tutte le emergenze monumentali circostanti sono entrate a far parte del patrimonio immobiliare di diverse famiglie, che ne hanno modificato l'aspetto. Sui resti della Chiesa del Convento è stata costruita nel 1830 la Villa, su progetto dell' Arch.Bellincioni, mentre le altre strutture conventuali sono state modificate e ridotte ad edifici rurali. Il complesso monumentale della Rocca del Brunelleschi è stato oggetto di un intervento di restauro, condotto tra il 1995 ed il 1998, che ne ha consentito l'apertura al pubblico.


Villa Fehr, which stands atop the Vicopisano hill, has been owned by the Fehr-Walser, a family of Swiss origin, since the early 19th century. The villa is set in a large park (not open to visitors) which extends over almost the whole northern side of the hill and is bordered to the south, by the Rocca del Brunelleschi. In addition to this imposing fortification, which still stands, the area now occupied by the villa was once also the site of the monastery of San Francesco, which after a somewhat chequered history was eventually deconsecrated and sold to private buyers in the late 18th century, the period of suppression of religious organisations by Pierre Léopold. At the end of the 1700s, the area around the villa and the surrounding monuments became the property of various families, who carried out various transformations. Villa Fehr itself was built in 1830 over the remains of the church, to a design by the architect Bellincioni, while the other monastery buildings were altered and turned into rural buildings. Extensive restoration work was carried out on the Rocca del Brunelleschi monumental complex between 1995 and 1998, following which it was opened to the public.
